Our mission was made possible by the translation, guidance and companionship of local organizations dedicated to spreading the gospel of Jesus internationally. The International Fellowship of Christian Students joined us as translators and were very generous with their perspective and knowledge of international relations.
Future doctors, lawyers, preachers teachers and leaders were among our company. By the third day in the field, these faces became familiar and we all worked side by side to provide mercy to the Burkinabe community. As we talked more, I realized that these students started working long before we arrived. Led by their Pastor, Mr. Mustafa the students of this youth group began praying and preparing for our arrival though we were thousands of miles away.
Earlier in the mission, I began to wonder if the children of Burkina Faso knew how much we were preparing for our trip. I wondered if they knew how many people who they have never met loved them and were sacrificing to provide for them during this mission. After a few conversations with this youth group, I began to realize that we had no idea how much work and effort went into hosting us. While we were busy with city life and wondering about the details that eventually took care of themselves, people were praying to Jesus for a safe trip. The success of our mission could be credited to no one person alone except the amazing grace of Jesus Christ which somehow bonded us in unity. The words of 1 Corinthians 1:27 came to life as I took a step back to simply appreciate the miracle of the mission.
It didn't take many conversations with Pastor Soulee, Elisee, Gnamu and Hulda to realize that I could have easily been talking to future leaders of our generation.
